Since I will be spending my Sunday at the Super Bowl (!!!), I wanted to share my favorite appetizer with those of you looking for a party snack to serve on the big day.
I had always called this recipe exactly what you’d think, bacon wrapped dates, but it wasn’t until I moved to New York that I discovered they are actually called Devils on Horseback. There are a variety of ways to serve these little appetizers, either stuffed with chutney, almonds or cheese, but I like mine the best simply wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with a little brown sugar.
Devils on Horseback are a perfect one bite appetizer, not to mention easy to make ahead of time. Bake these dates until the bacon is browned and crisp and they will absolutely melt in your mouth.
- 20 pitted dates
- 6 slices of thin bacon
- brown sugar
- wooden toothpicks
- Preheat the oven to 350°.
- Cut each bacon slice in half, just long enough to wrap around a date and overlap slightly.
- Secure with a wooden toothpick and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake 15-20 minutes, until the bacon is crisp and browned.
- Serve warm, enjoy!
